Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products.
  • 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • Experience working with front-end web technologies and a reasonably large React or Angular codebase.
  • Experience with engineering artifacts, such as reliability monitoring and alerting, security and privacy practices and techniques, documentation, integration testing, production hygiene and support processes.
  • Experience using Google Cloud Platform and App Engine.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other software developers and stakeholders at multiple levels including managers and junior staff.

The UX Research Tooling team (go/uxrt) is an internal tooling team within Core UX focused on simplifying research workflows so insights can quickly power product decisions across Google. We build and maintain tools that help Google create amazing products. These tools assist and empower design and research at Google by enabling faster execution, higher fidelity, and greater impact.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, scope, design, and own key software components and features for the team’s full-stack suite of products, manage outcomes for projects that span multiple quarters. This includes working with modern front-end technologies (e.g., React, Angular) and backend system, and taking full ownership from ideation through to deployment and long-term maintenance.
  • Act as a key technical point of contact, building strong collaborations and actively influencing internal engineering teams, UX designers, and product owners.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and UX researchers to identify ambiguous problems and unmet needs, generating the ideas required to solve them.
  • Take ownership of and enhance the teams engineering artifacts for your areas of work, ensuring all aspects of this technical work are high-quality.
