Freelance Senior Designer, Soft Wovens
Success Profile:
The Freelance Senior Designer, Soft Dressing creates and designs a competitive fashion product line that strikes a balance between relevant commercial product and brand right emotional fashion, that will collectively grow the business according to the brand strategic and financial objectives for the customer. Designs the line from conceptual research, sketches to final approved prototypes. Ensures that there is a synergy/common thread running through each line within the category, and that the seasonβs vision is accurately captured. Generates fresh, unique ideas and concepts through research: new materials, treatments, design techniques.
This is an exciting time for a proven Designer with eight years of specific industry experience spanning retail, wholesale, pattern-drafting, draping and print design for a global fashion lifestyle apparel brand to join the G-III team as a Freelance Senior Designer!
Reporting to: Design Director, DKNY Sportswear
Brand/Product Focus: DKNY Sportswear
Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan β Fashion District
Key Accountabilities:
Line Development: Researches current trends and forecasts the evolution on trends within brand identity. Applies findings from research (including blog, magazine, store, street-style, vintage exploration) to a seasonally relevant, cohesive collection that is well balanced in fabrication and thoroughly merchandised. Communicates seasonal concept/design intent to factories; Requests preliminary treatments and mock-ups
Sample Development: Generates tech-packs with clear silhouette, garment construction, and trim information to overseas factories. Receives prototype, fits and communicates adjustments to overseas factories via photographs, spec notes, and diagram sketches. Evaluates collection standing and sketch and refabricates to support seasonal objectives within line plan/SKU count. Exaggerates visual cues to reinforce concept and transcribes amplified garments to runway program with stylist.
Retail & Competitive Landscape: Maintains on-going awareness of the categoryβs impact and presence at retail, stays keenly in tune to the competition and brand strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
Education and Experience:
Eight (8) or more years of category specific Design experience for a global fashion lifestyle womenβs apparel brand, spanning retail and wholesale
Understanding of fabrics and washes
College degree, or equivalent professional work experience, required
Skills and Behaviors:
Proven ability to collaborate on a design team and to design at the speed of fashion
Development process expertise with reputational excellence working with overseas factories and vendors
Fashion savvy with the critical ability to identify and interpret commercially viable trends
Technical skill proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator
Motivated to work in a high energy environment at the speed of fashion with ever-changing priorities
Confident, capable, engaging, highly effective cross-functional written/verbal communication, teaming and interpersonal skills
The pay range for this position is: $52.88 per hour/$110,000 per year (Annualized salary is based on a 40-hour work week)- $55.28 per hour/$115,000 per year (Annualized salary is based on a 40- hour work week)
