Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20 years of experience leading software engineers across multiple geographies with a focus on networking platforms, load balancing, scalability, reliability, and high availability.
  • Experience with various infrastructure systems, the scope and impact of the systems, and the underlying technology.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Customer-facing products experience and a foundation in design, data structures, and algorithms, with excellent problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Experience as a site leader, ability to build and grow the team for a remote site, fostering an engineering culture and ensuring successful execution on product outlook and strategy.
  • Understanding of private and public cloud design considerations and limitations in areas of virtualization, global infrastructure, distributed systems, load balancing, networking, massive data storage, security with technical publications, and conference engagements.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills with outstanding written/verbal communication skills.

As Director, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction, technical oversight and operational management for a unique portfolio of critical products and infrastructure within the cloud networking team. As a leader of a remote site, you will be instrumental in building a center of excellence, fostering an engineering culture with successful delivery of networking products. These include network observability, network monitoring, management plane for products, infrastructure platforms and will drive the outlook for intelligent, self-optimizing networks. Networking represents 60% of the customer-facing APIs in Google Cloud, processing high rates of change across zonal, regional, and global scopes with extremely high reliability goals.

In this role, you will utilize an understanding of networking platforms and lead executive managers, while being fully accountable for the strategic evolution of the platform, the organizational evolution of the team including hiring and performance management, and the cost and efficiency of the services comprising this platform

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for developing networking infrastructure and networking products to enable Google Cloud Networking including direct business generation and indirectly all of Google Cloud’s business.
  • Serve as a leader of a remote site and be instrumental in building a center of excellence, fostering an engineering culture and ensuring the successful delivery and evolution of key networking services and platforms.
  • Work with executive leadership, product and system managers, Technical Leaders across the Cloud Networking team, and with Site Reliability Engineering leaders owning these products and services.
  • Understand and learn the various infrastructure systems, the scope and impact of these systems, and the underlying technology. 
  • Understand and evaluate the scalability and reliability to ensure the technical leads are always a step ahead of customer demands.
