We are looking for a passionate and skilled Accessibility Engineer (Associate) to integrate accessibility best practices and to help shape inclusive digital experiences across BlackRock’s products and services. In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed accessibility into every stage of our development lifecycle, ensuring our platforms are accessible and usable to all users, including those with disabilities.

As an Associate, you will:

  • Conduct technical accessibility audits and provide actionable guidance.
  • Champion inclusive design practices and influence product strategy.
  • Help ensure compliance with international accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, ADA, EN301 549, Section 508).
  • Contribute to reducing legal risk while enhancing user experience for a diverse global audience.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Implementation & Testing

  • Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits of web applications, mobile apps, and digital content using automated and manual testing methods
  • Implement accessibility solutions using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA specifications
  • Develop and maintain accessibility testing frameworks and automated testing pipelines
  • Create accessible component libraries and design system elements
  • Perform screen reader testing (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and keyboard navigation verification
  • Collaborate with Design, Development, and QA teams to integrate accessibility testing into CI/CD workflows

 

Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure digital products comply with WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards, Section 508, ADA, and other international accessibility regulations
  • Stay current with accessibility standards, assistive technologies, and industry best practices
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations for accessibility compliance

 

 

  • Document accessibility requirements and create technical specifications
  • Support legal and compliance teams with accessibility-related inquiries

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with UX/UI designers to create accessible user experiences from concept to implementation
  • Work closely with development teams to integrate accessibility into coding standards and practices
  • Collaborate with product managers to prioritize accessibility features and requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to content creators and digital marketers on accessible content practices
  • Support vendor evaluations and procurement processes from an accessibility perspective

 

Education & Advocacy

  • Conduct accessibility training for developers, designers, and content creators
  • Create documentation, guidelines, and best practice resources for internal teams
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on accessibility topics across the organization
  • Mentor team members on accessibility implementation and testing techniques
  • Present accessibility findings and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership

 

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 6+ years of experience in web development with a focus on accessibility implementation
  • Proficiency in web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, responsive design
  • Deep knowledge of accessibility standards: WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, ARIA specifications
  • Experience with accessibility testing tools: axe DevTools, WAVE, Pa11y, Lighthouse, Color Contrast Analyzers
  • Experience with a Content Management System: Adobe Experience Manager, Teamsite
  • Assistive technology expertise: Screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver), keyboard navigation, voice recognition software
  • Development frameworks: React, Angular, Vue.js, or similar modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Version control systems: Wiki, Azure DevOps, Git, SVN, and collaborative development workflows

 

Accessibility Expertise

 

  • Understanding of disability types and how they impact digital experiences
  • Understanding of platform accessibility APIs (Web Accessibility API, UIAutomation, Accessibility Framework)
  • Knowledge of the design systems and component testing methodologies
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and their interaction with web content
  • Experience with accessibility testing methodologies and user research
  • Familiarity with legal requirements and compliance frameworks
  • Understanding of inclusive design principles and universal design concepts

 

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills
  • Passion for inclusive design and user advocacy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

 

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Technical Experience

  • 5+ years of accessibility engineering experience in enterprise environments
  • Experience with mobile accessibility (iOS/Android) and native app development
  • Knowledge of backend accessibility considerations, Accessibility API design, and data structures that support assistive technologies
  • Familiarity with content management systems and their accessibility features
  • Experience with design systems and component library development

 

Certifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field
  • Advanced training in accessibility-specific technologies and methodologies

 

Industry Experience

  • Knowledge of international accessibility standards (EN 301 549, AODA, ADA)
  • Experience with accessibility auditing and remediation at scale
  • Background in user experience research with a focus on accessibility

 

Leadership & Communication

  • Public speaking or conference presentation experience

 

 

  • Technical writing and documentation skills
  • Experience working with legal and compliance teams
  • Ability to influence and drive organizational change
  • Experience in training and mentoring team members on accessibility practices

For Princeton, NJ Only the salary range for this position is USD$112,000.00 - USD$140,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
