Role Description

Department of Environment and Geography

The Department of Environment and Geography is seeking a Content Manager.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for an exceptional and creative candidate to help generate meaningful impact from influential research on how to support system transformation. If successful, you will be working with a highly collaborative and supportive team under the supervision of Professor Ioan Fazey, an internationally recognized expert on transformation and with inspirational members of FixOurFood and other stakeholders from across Yorkshire to deliver creative projects to disseminate research.

You will also be part of a community-oriented department that has a strong commitment to upholding our core values (embracing diversity, making a positive difference, environmental sustainability, being friendly and helpful, and always learning). Our department is highly integrated within an exciting array of environmental sustainability endeavours at our university, such as the Environmental Sustainability Academy at York and the Stockholm Environmental Institute (York), providing many opportunities for interdisciplinary working and networking across the university and beyond. Role

This role will support Professor Ioan Fazey and his team to develop and deliver creative projects that disseminate research from the FixOurFood project that is based on food system transformation.

Key Duties Are

  • To create content, derived from research outputs (directly or by managing others) in the most appropriate formats, shareable with a range of audiences, primarily other researchers and practitioners wishing to embark on food system transformation. This will include ‘how-to’ guides, short films, website content and social media content as appropriate.
  • Appoint and direct freelance designers and others to ensure that the format of all outputs is clear, engaging and professional.
  • Promote the outputs using appropriate networks and social media platforms in collaboration with the Research Council (UKRI), the FixOurFood Programme Manager and the FixOurFood Operations Director.

The post is based on campus at the University of York but may also involve some travel across Yorkshire. There will also be some potential for remote working when on-campus working is not required. You will be physically located in the collegiate Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York, ranked second in the UK for research impact.

This post is available at 100% FTE on a fixed term contract. Please note that flexible working patterns or part time working will be considered.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed

  • Ability to disseminate research outputs into formats and language that are accessible to a variety of audiences (Essential)
  • Ability to create and accurately cost briefs for tendering to external creative agencies (Essential)
  • Ability to manage others/creative agencies to ensure outputs are delivered on time and within budget (Essential)
  • Experience of website content creation and delivery including user functionality (Essential)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using own initiative (Essential)
  • Experience of managing creative agencies/freelancers (Essential)
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies and principles of transformation (Desirable)
